2016 All Staff Training

Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. conducted an Agency Wide All Staff Training with 200+ employees in attendance Friday 9/2/16.  Among the featured speakers was Rich Walters with the law firm of Shaffer & Shaffer.  Rich spoke to employees on Sexual Harassment, Diversity and on having a Drug Free Workplace.

Rosa Wiley Retires
Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. would like to congratulate Rosa Wiley (pictured with CEO Dwight Coburn) on her retirement! Rosa has been employed with SCAC through the Head Start/Early Head Start program for over 45 years! She has held many positions in her time with the agency but retires as an Area Supervisor for Lincoln County. Rosa is loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed. Enjoy your retirement Rosa and thank you for all your years of service!

Employee of the Quarter
It is our pleasure to announce that Teresa Gleason, Senior Team Member for our Mason County Homeless Shelter program has been selected as the Employee of the Quarter. Teresa has been employed with the agency for six years. In that time, Teresa has worked hard to build connections throughout the community with local businesses, churches, law enforcement and governmental officials. She also organizes a Food Pantry that is operated out of the Shelter and works closely with the DHHR to coordinate volunteer workers. Her dedication to the shelter residents and the community as a whole is felt by everyone. Congratulations Teresa! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Mason County Homeless Shelter and to Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc.!

Board Member Retires
Lois Elkins retired from Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc.’s Board of Directors at the May 2016 meeting.  Lois served as our Board Secretary as well as on various committees.   Our heartfelt thanks go out to Lois and her husband Russell for her 15 years of faithful service.

Employee of the Year 2015
It is our pleasure to announce that Rosa Wiley, Lincoln County Area Supervisor for the Head Start/Early Head Start program, has been selected as the Employee of the Year!  Rosa has worked for the agency for 45 years! Reliability, loyalty and dependability are all strong characteristics of Rosa's. When a problem occurs she steps up to the plate and tackles them in a respectful and professional manner. She works well with the school system and eliminates problems before they happen. She truly has the welfare of the children and families first and foremost in her heart.   Congratulations Rosa!

Employee of the Quarter
It is our pleasure to announce that Lynn Hardwick Area Supervisor for our Head Start/Early Head Start program has been selected as the Employee of the Quarter. Lynn has been employed with the agency for over 30 years and has held many positions in that time! Lynn is known for always being there to help wherever needed never complaining when asked to help cover and often volunteering. She has a true passion for supporting families and staff. She encourages advancements and has a knack for pointing out positive attributes in people. Lynn is one of the original organizers of Wayne County Kids Day, an annual event that connects families to available resources throughout the county along with doing many other projects and things to help her community.  Congratulations Lynn! Thank you for your dedication and hard work!

It is our pleasure to announce that Brenda Blake, Infant Toddler Educator for Early Head Start program, has been selected as the Employee of the Quarter.  Brenda has worked for SCAC since 2011. Brenda is always willing to help and goes above and beyond to do things for those around her. “Everyone enjoys working with Brenda because her good attitude lifts your spirits.” She is always happy and smiling. Her hard work and dedication to the program shows in her ability and commitment to fatherhood activities and getting fathers more involved. Congratulations Brenda! Results Oriented Management and Accountability
Congratulations to Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc.’s very own Jerry Yeager! Jerry has been certified as a National Certified ROMA Trainer! ROMA – Results Oriented Management and Accountability – a system for measuring outcomes and successes in Community Action programs. In order to get this certification he went through a rigorous process over several months which included testing on a written curriculum and performing a series of videotaped practice sessions which were then judged by nationally certified Master Trainers. As a Certified ROMA Trainer, Jerry will provide training to our staff on the six national goals of Community Action and training on making improvements throughout the agency by measuring program performance and other methods. Great job Jerry! Thank you for your continued commitment to our agency and community!

Employee of the Quarter

It is our pleasure to announce that Thomas Ramey, Service Coordinator for the Supportive Services for Veterans and Families program, has been selected as the Employee of the Quarter for January - March 2015. Thomas has worked for SCAC since October 2014. In his short time with the agency, Thomas has proven to be a hard worker and dedicated to Veterans and their families. The SSVF program works directly with homeless Veterans and their families. Thomas is known as a friendlyindividual who puts forth a positive attitude towards all co-workers and clients. He goes above and beyond to reach out to the community and find those in need of help. He has proven to be a valuable asset to the SSVF program and to Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. Congratulations, Thomas!

Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Head Start by planting a rose in the Glennalee Fulks Memorial Garden at the Monroe Head Start Center on Monday, May 18, 2015.  Loretta Smith and Melinda Perry were given the honor of planting the rose while the children, staff and parents watched and clapped as the rose was planted.  Mrs. Fulks, along with her husband Don Fulks assisted in the construction of the flower garden that was built in 2010.

Employee of the Year 2014

It is our pleasure to announce that Alice Fulks, Office Manager for the Head Start/Early Head Start program, has been selected as the Employee of the Year!  Alice has worked for SCAC for over 20 years.  “During those years she has proven her loyalty to the agency, integrity and high work standards. Her respect for the staff members and the children and families we serve is evident in her daily performance.” Alice is known for her vast knowledge of the agency and the CFDP program. Alice handles many things that are not her true job duties but will not turn anyone away and is always smiling. She not only works with employees and children and families but is a regular contact for our vendors and our school systems. She is known for her professionalism, charm and knowledge. Congratulations Alice!
